Plastic Pirates is a regular event organized monthly by Joan Elizalde, who is an environmental educator, founder of Green Steps, marine biologist and Montessori teacher. This activity aims to build awareness and educate the younger generations about the impact of plastic waste upon our planet. It includes an ecology walk in one of Shanghai’s National Wetland Forest Parks, a zero-waste picnic, a clean up of the shoreline, short games and hands-on tasks. The event has been already successfully run eight times, with over 300 participants, from the ages of 4 years and above.
Texas Roadhouse - on November 30th hosted the Fulbright gathering dinner organized by the US Consulate General Shanghai. Scholars and their families gathered to share some great food. They gathered to enjoy steaks and discuss important issues related to the American community here in Shanghai.
INCGIVING Project was held in Shanghai Baby’s Home. The FYM foundation, which is largely based in the Philippines, has now been extended to Shanghai. They have decided to launch INCGIVING PROJECT with the primary aim being to extend help to those who are in need. In their recent activity, held at the Children’s Medical Center, they provided orphaned children with boxes of milk, diapers and clothes. These are all of the essential things that are required for the successful growth and healthy development of children.
Last winter, “Katie’s Heroes” helped raise over a thousand books for the Qinghai school through “Hats for Books”. They are currently looking for book donations, and if you donate 20 secondhand books you will receive a personalized, hand knitted hat. Contact: kkatalin00@hotmail.com.
